Details
Kelaghayi is a thin silk scarf rooted in tradition, originating from Azerbaijan.
Each piece is dyed through a careful, time-intensive process that allows the color to fully absorb into the silk, creating richness, softness, and natural depth.
Motifs are applied by hand using carved wooden blocks, pressed onto the fabric in repeated sequences. This method requires precision, rhythm, and experience, and slight variations in pressure or placement may naturally occur.
We support small groups of artisans who continue these traditional techniques entirely by hand, preserving a craft that cannot be replicated through mass production. The work is slow, detailed, and deeply personal — a reflection of human craftsmanship rather than factory-made uniformity.
Subtle variations are not flaws, but evidence of the human hand behind each piece.
The designs often carry symbolic meaning inspired by nature, cultural traditions, and motifs passed down through generations.
The traditional art, symbolism, production, and wearing of Kelaghayi are recognized on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
