Details
Kelaghayi is a thin silk scarf shaped by tradition, originating from Azerbaijan.
Each piece is dyed through a careful, time-intensive process, allowing color to fully absorb into the silk and develop natural depth.
Motifs are applied by hand using carved wooden blocks, pressed onto the fabric in repeated sequences. This process requires alignment and rhythm, and slight shifts in pressure or placement can naturally occur.
Subtle variations are not flaws, but evidence of the human process.
The designs carry meaning, often drawn from nature and cultural symbols passed down over time.
The traditional art, symbolism, production, and wearing of Kelaghayi are included in the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
